As a child, I visited Egypt and was given a beautiful turquoise scarab ring. Scarabs were popular amulets in Ancient Egypt. The Egyptian god Khepri was often depicted as a scarab beetle, rolling the sun above the horizon, carrying it to the other world before renewing it the next day. I found this object fascinating and emblematic, so I used ancient photos as a base for my drawing. After experimenting with many compositions, I chose a dynamic diagonal composition, as if they were flowers floating on water. As the observer approaches, they discover the story of the scarab god, and perhaps be rewarded with some good luck? Tal Waldman
