Nuages de Deux Mondes
2021

Clouds are part of our symbolic imagination and have been represented in painting across the ages: Mantegna, Tiepolo, Constable or Magritte spring to mind.
Unlike in the Western world, their depiction is not realistic in the Orient: their representation is abstract, graphic and very often takes on the value of emptiness in the composition.
Last year, during a trip to Korea and Japan, I was able to observe mysterious and magnificent clouds in paintings, screens and prints, from which fragments of landscapes emerged, all reconstructed in the viewer's imagination.
In this project, I wanted to bring both worlds together in a play of juxtapositions. Francesca Zoboli
